Last weekend we went for a ride on the Cuyahoga Valley Scenic Railroad. It drizzled for much of the ride (which is why there aren’t pictures of that) but by the time we got off, it was gorgeous out. I even convinced Maura to stay still long enough to let me take the above picture.
Also interesting was the part where the train engine randomly caught fire. We were near the next stop, so waited there for the fire to be extinguished and a new engine to be hooked up. I have a gift for this sort of thing, I swear. Fires, blizzards, epic blackouts, accidental ten-mile hikes, bizarre animal interactions. Sometimes I wonder if I’m missing a joke somewhere.
Maura’s down three front teeth now–watching her attempt to eat things (apples! corn!) is hilarious. I suspect that she will not thank me for it later, but I’m considering taking a video of her lame attempts at food. She’s figuring out how to cram an entire apple into her cheek.
She’s getting ready for back to school, too. Protesting about it, because apparently we’ve already hit that age, but getting ready. I’m looking forward to it, and hoping that the additional structure will be good for her. I’m a little worried that she seems so…I don’t know. There’s been a steady desire to stay home all the time, even if it means that she’s in bed. She’s also insisting she doesn’t know what to say to the teacher, and that she can’t read, and that she “sucks”–I keep pointing out that she’s missing the point, because we go to school to learn how to interact with people and learn how to read, but I don’t think that she believes me. Sometimes I’m not sure that I believe me–I’d like to stay home in bed with her from now on, too.

She’s BEAUTIFUL. Absolutely beautiful. :)
